Jan Brewer appointed to Obama’s imperial “Council of Governors”

If you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention!

“Today, President Barack Obama announced his intent to appoint the following individuals to the Council of Governors. The Council, created January 11 of this year by Executive Order, will work closely with the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and other defense and national security advisors to exchange views, information and advice on matters of mutual interest pertaining to the National Guard, homeland defense, synchronization [emphisis mine] and integration of State and Federal military activities in the United States, and civil support activities.”

As investigative journalist William N. Grigg has already pointed out elsewhere:

“The German National Socialists used the term Gleichschaltung to describe the “coordination” or “synchronization” of all government functions by centralizing power in the Chief Executive. This process was carried out through a series of executive decrees supposedly authorized by the 1933 Enabling Act, formally known as the “Law for Removing the Distress of People and Reich.”

Governor Brewer’s response to our Emperor’s appointment ought to make every Arizonan who cares about state sovereignty irate:

“I am grateful for the opportunity the President of the United States has provided me to serve as a member of the Council of Governors..”.

Although this council, which was conjured into existence on January 11th by Obama’s executive decree, is not going to usher in martial law anytime soon, it is just one more step towards centralizing all military and police power in the hands of an all powerful unitary executive. Many Americans, including Governor Brewer perhaps, just do not understand the potential danger that this new hybrid government entity poses.

After discovering the rest of Governor Brewer’s statement about her appointment, I am left dazed and confused as to how she thinks that this council will somehow actually help to preserve states’ rights and prevent federal misuse of Arizona’s National Guard:

“This subject is of great interest to all Americans, and I am pleased the President has recognized the role of governors. [You know, like the little kid in the back seat of the car with the toy steering wheel? That's similar to the role of Governors that Obama recognizes.] I am grateful that the invitation to governors is almost assuredly a sign of interest in balancing federal authority with the rights of states, [add canned laughter here]exclusively reserved in the 10th Amendment to the United States Constitution.”

“I want to be a voice for matters of vital importance to states, such as border security, that are clearly the responsibility of the federal government,” she said.

“At the same time, I also want to be at the table to ensure long-standing tradition and precedent, such as the special role of the National Guard in state affairs, remains intact,” she said.

“The National Guard’s state role must be preserved, even as its valuable role in the global war on terrorism evolves. I look forward to being a strong advocate for Arizona’s continued leadership in national defense issues and for protecting the interests of those men and women serving in uniform in Arizona, this nation or in other places around the globe.”

Is this just another case of Arizona’s Governor chasing the President’s old “Carrot on a Stick“? Is it just me, or is there a pattern developing here?

As Kurt Nimmo points out in his report, the federal government has been working toward this goal for quite sometime:

“In other words, with the stroke of a pen, Obama significantly increased the ongoing effort to federalize the states and take control of the National Guard in violation of the now more or less moribund Posse Comitatus Act. Posse Comitatus was effectively annulled by the 2006 John Warner National Defense Authorization Act. The act provides the president with power to declare martial law under revisions to the Insurrection Act and take charge of United States National Guard troops without state governor authorization. Parts of the act were repealed in 2008.”

Governor Brewer has earned a reputation for being a strong advocate of the right to keep and bear arms, states’ rights and border security throughout her 27 years in elected office. So why is she involving Arizona in this soverignty suicide pact? Perhaps she just misses Janet Napolitano ever since she left Arizona to become the new Homeland Security overloard. As a member of Obama’s Imperial Council of Governors, Jan Brewer will have the opportunity to work closely with both Secretary Napolitano and the Secretary of Defense.

Frankly, the thought of my Governor teaming up with Janet Napolitano and Robert Gates in order to, “synchronize and intergrate State and Federal military activities in the United States”, scares me more than the thought of Osama bin Laden teaming up with Kim Jong-il!

Whatever her reasons, the people of Arizona who love liberty and want a federal government of limited powers, as established by the Constitution and guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment, need to ask her that question and tell her to resign from Obama’s Gleichschaltung Council today!

The same goes for the liberty loving people of Vermont, Washington, Oklahoma, Missouri, Maryland, Virginia, South Dakota, North Carolina and even Puerto Rico! All of these Governors who have accepted an appointment to this dangerous council need a stern talking to from the people of their state.
